Amalfi to Rome

February 20- 28, 2010

Carnivale celebrations in Amalfi.  It didn't matter that we were in Italy, Spencer was enthralled by the games and it was certainly the highlight of his day!
Cooper insisted that we utilize the orange and lemon trees in the backyard and harassed my dad until he agreed to make fresh lemonade and orange juice for the entire family.

Starting a fire was also a requirement from the boys. It was definitely a process to find enough kindling!  But success was finally achieved.

Cooper was by far the tour guide's favorite, insisting on understanding every detail and often taking the time to pull out his map in order to figure it all out.  Cam was a willing side-kick.
Spencer was won over by ancient petrified body.

Mozzarella factory for the morning.
The owner showed us how mozzarella is stretched and made by hand.

We got our turn.  Everyone did great...

Except Dad, whose cheese ended up looking like Washington's braid.

The Sorrento Lemons....As Cooper would say, "Ooooooooooooh!"

My Dad seemed to make friends with people everywhere we went.  Here he is having a political discussion outside of the Pompeii ruins.  Along our journey, he seemed to give to every beggar we saw limping on the train, or prostrating on the street. He started in Milan by buying a small rainbow knotted bracelet from the Africans in Piazza del Duomo.  So it didn't surprise me when he said, "Yes." to the  flower seller and my mom was soon carrying a ragged red rose in the middle of the Piazza del Popolo.

Tour of Pompeii.  Cooper trying out the stepping stones (ancient cross walk).

Spencer was the winner during the cooking class, but we all certainly had a great time.  Making ravoli, meat balls, tiramisu.  YUM.  Plus getting a tour of their wine cellar and furniture factory was pretty amazing!  Mom bought a tea table (and I think Charlie threw in one of his homemade wines).

Mom and Dad in front of Trevi (so cute!).

A slight respite on the Spanish Steps.

The sun setting on Roma.
