Festa Della Donna
March 8, 2009
My sister's wedding is rapidly approaching, so Amy and Annie decided to help me trek through Milano in hopes to find a beautiful dress to wear to the wedding that is exactly two months away.
We started our day with a panzerotti from Luini's and ate it in Piazza San Fedele, one of my favorite piazzas in the city. A pigeon pooped on Amy, as we ate, and was good for a few laughs before we were off to Rinescente. NOTHING!
We found our way, to a designers shop that I have loved since I moved here, Luisa Beccaria. Her shop, in the Brera, is a place we often gawk at. Too bad, the dress costs more than what I would spend on a car, right now. Which only led Amy to say, that is the reason I should buy it.
"Well, you want a teal Fiat Panda! That means you should be able to buy a dress like this!"
Today is the Festa Della Donna and in the middle of our shopping trip there was a protest of Italian women wearing hot pink and black and shouting slogans. Twenty police were escorting the protest, and I can't help but say, I was thrilled to see they were protesting a billboard that had been hanging in Milan for weeks. What a way to celebrate the Day of Women, instead of getting the small yellow mimosa flowers, but instead, protesting an ad for "Relish" that glamorizes police brutality against women. I happily took a pamphlet, not the most appropriate to post to the blog, but, I think Heather, my Mom and Molly can handle it!
Yessssssss, Italian women, I guess you are more than beautiful secretaries after all! Buon Festa Della Donna!!!
"pacco sicurezza" means package emergency!
